The Power of Forgiveness
Forgiveness: Receiving & Extending
Sunday, October 20, 2024

Big Idea:

God is all about forgiveness and we must be also. First, we receive it, then we extend it.

Key Scriptures:

Matthew 5:21-26

Questions for Discussion

Getting to Know You: How did your parents settle disputes between you and your siblings?

  1. In what ways are anger and murder connected? What new standard of right and wrong was Jesus creating in Matthew 5:21-26?
  2. What are some attributes we should have if we’re trying to be like Jesus?
  3. How should we deal with irritating people in a Christ-like manner? What positive effect can those people have on our lives?
  4. Who do you tend to get angry with easier: people you know or those you don’t know? Why do you think that is?
  5. How would you explain the differences between forgiveness and grace? How are they similar?
  6. Why is it important to settle quickly with those with whom we have differences? What is the effect of letting things “fester” for too long?

Life Application: Are you good at initiating reconciliation when there are strained relationships in your life? What can you do to get better?
