Big Idea:

The goal of conflict resolution is not to see who wins or loses but rather to find complete reconciliation.

Key Scriptures:

James 3:4-5

Ephesians 4:25-32

Questions for Discussion:

Getting to Know You: Did you ever get your mouth washed out with soap? What were your parents’ rules about language in your home?

  1. What is your number #1 piece of marriage advice? Why?
  2. Read James 3:3-6 together. What do the examples of the bit, rudder, and fire teach about the importance of watching what we say?
  3. What is the thing that causes the most conflict in your marriage or other close personal relationships? What steps have you taken to reduce conflict in this area? What has been the result?
  4. Ephesians 4:15 tells us to “speak the truth in love.”  How do we put this into practice?
  5. When it comes to anger, would those closest to you describe you as a “bottler,” “spewer,” or “expresser”?
  6. What does refusing to forgive reveal about ourselves?

Life Application: What skill (honesty, anger management, compassion, and forgiveness) mentioned by Pastor Doug do you need to work on most? What steps can you take to improve?
