Decisions vs. Commitments
Sunday, March 30, 2025

Big Idea:

Decisions are different than commitments. We can decide to do anything, but we aren’t always committed enough to follow through. We must be committed in order to maintain a lifelong relationship with Christ.

Key Scriptures:

Luke 9:57-62

Questions for Discussion:

Getting to Know You: What’s your favorite excuse for not doing something?

  1. Read Luke 9:57-62. How does Jesus respond to the excuses offered by the three men? What do each of Jesus’ sayings mean? What point is Jesus trying to make?
  2. Jesus didn’t sugarcoat anything – He made it clear that following Him wasn’t easy. In your opinion, what does it mean to count the cost of following Jesus?
  3. What are some things in life that tend to pull people away from fully following Jesus? What has pulled or tempted you to pull you away from following Him?
  4. Of the issues Jesus listed (comfort, social obligations, family concerns), which one would tempt you to not be fully committed?
  5. What do you think makes the difference between a short-term decision and a life-long commitment?
  6. What practical steps can we take to ensure that our faith is more than just words – that we are truly committed to following Christ no matter the cost?

Life Application: Are there areas in your life where you’re making excuses instead of fully surrendering to Christ?
